About My Approach:

Professional massage and bodywork by Karen Roberts is therapeutic, deeply relaxing and gentle. Every session is expertly designed to address your specific condition and needs. The tailored sessions are cumulative in their effects and will help you manage, reduce or even eliminate stress, low energy, chronic pain, or pain from disease or injury.

During our initial conversation, we will discuss your current condition, what you would like to achieve and any concerns or questions you have regarding your health and my approach.

I will apply my experience and education to design a unique care plan that best meets your specific needs. We may use one,  or a combination of modalities to achieve your health goals. You may choose to be partially or fully clothed, and draped while you lie on a well-padded table in a safe, private, comfortable environment.

These gentle sessions will incorporate various modalities to reprogram your body’s ability to experience comfort, relaxation and ease by releasing the pain, stress and tension you “normally” experience.

I can also teach you specific self-care activities for you to use in the comfort of your own home. These activities will help speed your progress to improved comfort and overall health.

Over time, as you and your body experience, learn, and apply these new habits of deep relaxation and healing, you will have the tools to counteract life’s challenges, improve the way your body feels, ease pain and heal faster.

Modalities We May Use:

Swedish Massage

I use a high quality natural massage cream to comfortably stroke, knead and loosen the muscles of your body to improve circulation, release tight or sore areas, and help give you an experience of deep relaxation and overall well-being.

Trigger Point Therapy

I use comfortable finger pressure and energy to help release tight, or sore points in your muscles so that circulation can be improved and pain can be eased. Releasing trigger points is often the first step to relieving most muscular soreness and pain.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release involves using gentle pressure to free up fascial tissue which surrounds and interpenetrates muscles and which connects various structures in your body. As we release your trigger points and also release any significant fascial restrictions you may have, it can feel like you have new muscles. The pain and soreness isn’t there any more and it feels good to move freely.



The Trager® Approach

The Trager Approach is a form of neuromuscular reeducation which was developed by Milton Trager, M.D.. It involves using gentle, supportive movements which help you begin to relax deeply and begin to free up and expand your body’s comfortable range of movement. Additionally, I can teach you Trager® self-care movements and principles which you can use to continue expanding your experience of comfort and freedom of movement on your own.

Energywork and Reiki

I practice polarity, acutherapy and Reiki energywork. My goal in using energywork is to help free up and enhance the flow of energy in your body. I am able to feel subtle shifts in body energy, as well as where there is a lack, or an overabundance of energy. I can also give you instructions about how you can begin to work with your own energy at home on your own.

Healing energy usually feels good, warm and comfortable. The energy which flows from my hands will penetrate and travel where it is needed by your body. Stagnant energy can then begin to flow and excess energy can disperse, helping you feel relaxed and comfortable, and maybe sometimes, a bit sleepy. Receiving energywork can help you get the rest your body needs which, in turn, makes it possible for your body begin to rebuild itself and heal faster.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy involves using extremely light touch to feel your body’s craniosacral rhythm and any restrictions in your craniosacral system. Then I can use gentle manual techniques to begin the process of releasing any problem areas and relieving any undue pressure on your brain and spinal cord.

Craniosacral Therapy can help relieve a wide range of illness, pain and dysfunction, including:

Lymph Drainage Therapy

Lymphatic drainage is a gentle yet powerful hands-on technique which activates and cleanses the human fluid system. Lymph Drainage Therapy works to recirculate lymphatic flow, activate fluid circulation, and stimulate the functioning of your immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. When lymph circulation stagnates (due to fatigue, stress, lack of physical activity, emotional shock, cold temperatures, infections, substantial swelling, age, chemicals or food additives) fluids, proteins, cells and toxins accumulate in the body and cellular functioning is greatly compromised. This opens the way to many physical ailments and may hasten the aging process.

Results of receiving Lymph Drainage Therapy can include:

Raindrop Therapy involves massaging 9 different therapeutic grade essential oils into your back and feet to assist your body and mind in relaxing deeply and releasing stress and tension. Heat is also applied to your back to help the oils be absorbed deeply into your skin and muscles. The oils smell wonderful and nourish your whole being while working powerfully to counteract the many unnatural substances and electromagnetic energy with which we are bombarded in modern life.

Guided Relaxation & Visualization

I am able to guide you through a wide variety of relaxation and/or visualization techniques which will help you release stress and tension while enhancing your body’s energy flow. You can then use these techniques to relax deeply on your own. Over time we can add or modify techniques as needed.
